  • unsweetened cocoa powder
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • water
  • vegetable oil
  • white vinegar
  • vanilla extract

Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9-inch cake pan with baking paper, then lightly grease with oil.
  • Mix together dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Combine wet ingredients with dry mix: water, oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract. Stir gently until smooth.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Tap pan to remove air bubbles.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then on a rack.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze slices for up to 3 months.
